For the: Sophisticated gourmet
If you know someone who loves to entertain, adores their kitchen or is nuts about tea, head to Porte Rouge. This shop, which would be right at home on any Paris street, features top-quality items from around the world. You can find excellent Japanese knife sets, Claude Dozorme cheese service sets ($95-$170), cast iron Staub cookware (used by local chefs and offered with a lifetime warranty) and Cucina home fragrance items (take a whiff of the ginger and Sicilian lemon kitchen spray, $16).
Amy O'Daniel, manager and tea expert, can answer any questions you might have about the selection of Parisian teas. She recommends: Marco Polo (a "chocolate-covered cherry" black tea), The a l'opera (a green tea with red berries), Chandernagor (a spicy black tea chai), Nil Rouge (a South-African red tea) and Espirit de Noel (a holiday-themed black tea with vanilla, spices and fruit peel). Teas come loose for $7- $11 or in gift tins for $16 and up.
